Frequently Asked Questions

How will my information be kept confidential? All interviews will be de-identified, meaning your name and any personal details that could identify you or your child will be removed from our records. Your responses will be combined with other participants’ to inform our research. Only the research team will have access to interview recordings, which will be securely stored and deleted after analysis.

What if I don’t feel comfortable answering a question? Participation is completely voluntary. You can skip any question that makes you uncomfortable or stop the interview at any time without penalty. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.

How long will the interview really take? Most interviews take between 45-60 minutes. About half the time (20-25 minutes) will be spent sharing your experience, and the other half (25-30 minutes) reviewing and giving feedback on tools we’re developing. We respect your time and will keep to the scheduled duration.

Will this research actually help other families? Yes. This research is funded by NIDILRR specifically to develop tools that will help parents better understand and act on their children’s academic progress. The International Dyslexia Association and National Center for Learning Disabilities are supporting this work because they believe it will make a meaningful difference for families navigating dyslexia support.
